Marriage Preparation

Policy:

Beginning July, 2003 all couples preparing to marry in the Archdiocese of Omaha must attend a 3 hour Marriage Preparation Pre-Session, have FOCCUS administered and facilitated and attend an Educational Program sponsored by the Archdiocese.

Rationale:

A sacramental marriage is the center of Catholic family life and the vocation through which most persons live out their Baptismal commitment. Cultural influences today work against personal development for healthy Christian marriage and challenge living out lifetime commitment. Marriage failure is common.

The Church calls every diocese and every parish to prepare couples as well as possible for entering and living out the sacrament of marriage. Research identifies the characteristics of effective and successful marriage preparation. Self-awareness through an inventory followed by a strong educational program provides a couple with the best opportunity to be well prepared.
